About

Hi.  Welcome to Musicians for Huckabee.  This site is about music and musicians.  Our crew has been following Mike Huckabee and his classic rock cover band, “Capitol Offense,” for several years.  As you may know, Mike served as Governor of Arkansas for over ten years until January 2007.  Like a lot of musicians, he is in between jobs right now.  But he’s getting a tryout for the ultimate North American tour — POTUS!

One of Mike’s favorite things to do is to play music.  If you’ve ever played in a band you know how great it is when after practicing for weeks you get to a show and everything clicks.  Your band is tight, the room is right, and the crowd turns electric.  There is nothing else like it.  And if you’ve ever been to a really, really great show, you remember the goosebumps when the band played that song you came to hear.  I remember going to see Led Zeppelin just weeks after they released “Stairway to Heaven.”  I can still see Jimmy Page strapping on that double-neck Gibson.  For a 17 year old kid who had just got his first Strat and a Twin Reverb, it was fantastic.  Fast forward 30+ years.  This year, The Who came to town, and when they started in on “Won’t Get Fooled Again” I got the same goosebumps I had in 1973.  CS&N in Memphis.  Emerson, Lake and Palmer doing “Lucky Man.”  Aerosmith and “Walk this Way.”  Santana and “Oye Como Va” and those great organ and guitar rides on “Everybody’s Everything.”  The Doobie Brothers and “Jesus is Just Alright.”  Chicago doing “Saturday in the Park” and Earth, Wind and Fire doing “Shining Star.”  I could go on and on.

Mike’s also played in a praise and worship band.  So there’s Praise and Worship, Contemporary Christian and gospel to talk about.  Rich Mullins doing “Our God is an Awesome God.”  Michael W. Smith and “Agnus Dei.”  Carolyn Arends and her amazing songs like “Reaching” and “Power of Love.”  Anointed, D. C. Talk, Ron Kenoly, and P.O.D.  And the great music coming out of Willow Creek, Hillsong, and Saddleback.  Talk about goosebumps.

But we don’t want this site to be just about big bands and big shows.  And it is definitely not just about “golden oldies.”  Its mainly about local musicians.  People that play at the VFW and bars and weddings and proms and church and anywhere else they can convince a few people to listen to their music.

Songs may be political, but music is nonpartisan, and so is this site.  We’ll have links to other places where you can find out about Mike Huckabee and why he is running for President, and if you want to talk about politics, world affairs, metaphysics or inside baseball you can go to some other site.  But we want to talk about music, songwriters and bands.

We’ll talk about “Capitol Offense,” who they are and what they do.  We’ll try to get some video, and interviews.  We might even get some of the band members to post here from time to time.

But we also want to talk about you.  Tell us about your music; the singer, songwriter, band or artist that has spoken to you over the years.  The best show.  The worst show.  And if you are blessed to be a songwriter, a player, or are in a band, we want to know about you and your band — what you play and how you do it and why you do it.

So, in the end, let’s just have some fun and maybe — just maybe, one day soon there will be a bass player in the White House.  America — what a country!
